The Nakuru House of Power ministry was born through earnest prayers, fasting, and reaching out to the lost. The church officially started on May 21, 2006. A team of intercessors went into the prayer closest for 21 day with hearts of prayer and fasting. During that time they saw the burden for the poor and distraught people of Nakuru West. Eventually, we as a church conceived that passion to assist them as well. Nakuru west was the most affected areas of the Rift Valley Region during the 1992-1997 tribal clashes and the December 2007-February 2008 riots/killings because of the post election violence in Kenya. The people here are still recovering from both horrible experiences. Some people are still living without homes, work or food in the refugee camps provided by the Red Cross.
We evangelize to the slum communities of Kaptembwa, Ronda, Mwariki, Baruti, and Paul Machanga in Nakuru town from 1998 until the present date. We have been praying and trusting GOD to establish our ministry to these people right where they are located. This is the only way we saw we can bring hope to the challenges of the desperate war torn places in Kenya.
Many of these areas have been abandoned by the church, and the government does not offer any assistance to these poor and distraught people. Most pastors do not want to minister in these areas due to the high level of poverty. Pastors who were previously in Nakuru west closed their churches and moved closer to the city of Nakuru because church members can tithe and give offerings. Church members in Nakuru west can not sustain the running of the church due to poverty level; instead they come to church to be helped. Many families can not take a child to school, especially kindergarten where a child gets foundation of education. In Kenya families must pay for all education grades. Some families can not afford a meal, let alone educating their children. They depend on walking around the richer estate houses looking for work by asking them if they need someone to wash their clothes. They wash clothes by hand at the river. If they do not find work by the way of washing someone‘s clothes, there will be no food on the table for the whole family. Some survive on bicycle taxi fares, others on roasting fresh maize corn on road side, still others sell charcoal they find, by the road side.
